Scored for SSATB Choir, Piano (required), and Congas, on a poem of Keller Cushing Freeman; about 5 minutes. $5 per copy, minimum 8 copies (42 pages each). This is also available in a SSAATTBB version. The piano part is not optional; it provides both support for the singers and independent lines. A Welcome to the World was commissioned by Dr. David Rhyne, conductor of Cantus, the elite chamber choir at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. Keller Freeman's text focuses on the essential truth that we truly are a nation of immigrants. It mentions, by name, a large number of immigrants - male and female - that have made significant contributions to the American story. It's a celebration of the tremendous strength that is the result of this mixture of peoples. A video of the premiere is here.
